چکیده

Abstract The effectiveness of augmentative biological control using parasitoids often depends on their physiological state and the pest population density at time release. Tamarixia triozae (Burks) (Hymenoptera: Eulophidae) is a primary host-feeding parasitoid serious invasive Bactericera cockerelli (Šulc) (Hemiptera: Triozidae). Here we investigated effects adult diets (honey, water, yeast, hosts) timing provision T. fitness oviposition patterns, providing knowledge for enhancement its potential. Adults fed with honey four days no access to hosts or water yeast one day followed by host feeding three had similar longevity lifetime killing ability. only before release significantly greater intrinsic rate increase, shorter doubling time, higher daily fecundity peak. flattened curves. These findings have several implications . First, diet may allow least successful shipment host-deprived adults without compromising effectiveness. Second, one-day achieve rapid suppression when high. Finally, releasing three-day can increase establishment success reduce risk massive removal low.

Augmentative Biological Control in Greenhouses: Experiences from China

To enhance biological control of insect pests in greenhouses, facilities and procedures for mass production of the parasitoids, Eretmocerus sp., Encarsia formosa, and Trichogramma brassicae, and the predator, Aphidoletes aphidimyza were successfully developed in Hengshui, Hebei province, China. Mass production of the aphelinid wasps was achieved by using different plant varieties and host insec...

Effects of Intraguild Predation and Interspecific Competititon among Biological Control Agents in Augmentative Biological Control in Greenhouses

Two natural enemy species are frequently released simultaneously to control one pest species in augmentative biological control in greenhouses. Intraguild predation (IGP) and interspecific competition between natural enemies might affect the biological control. IGP occurs between two parasitoids, between one parasitoid and one predator, and between two predators. Although unidirectional IGP has...

The potato psyllid, Bactericera cockerelli (šulc), has been detrimental to potato, tomato, and other solanaceous crop production in many countries. Management of B. cockerelli is dominated by frequent insecticide applications, but other approaches need consideration, including biological control. The sole arrhenotokous ectoparasitoid of nymphal potato psyllids is Tamarixia triozae (Burks) (Hyme...

Augmentative Biological Control Using Parasitoids for Fruit Fly Management in Brazil

The history of classical biological control of fruit flies in Brazil includes two reported attempts in the past 70 years. The first occurred in 1937 when an African species of parasitoid larvae (Tetrastichus giffardianus) was introduced to control the Mediterranean fruit fly, Ceratitis capitata and other tephritids. The second occurred in September 1994 when the exotic parasitoid Diachasmimorph...

Large-Scale Augmentative Biological Control of Asian Corn Borer Using Trichogramma Second International Symposium on Biological Control of Arthropods

Asian corn borer, Ostrinia furnacalis (Guenée), is the most destructive pest of corn in China. It causes 6 to 9 million ton yield loss in an average year. Biological control using releases of Trichogramma has increased greatly since T. dendrolimi Matsumura can be successfully mass reared on eggs of the Chinese oak silkworm, Antheraea pernyi Guérin-Méneville. The process and technique for mass p...
